Solved windows easy transfer duplicated data files?

I did the WET(win easy trans) and all went well. Took a looong time. Now I know why. My new partition is twice the size that the XP install was??? I looked, and I think all the data files now have two to four copies on the w7 install. WHA HOPPEN?? I hate to start over. I have manually deleted hundreds of files, some I did not want to delete and had to recover. It's spilled milk now, but I would like to know how this happened so I don't do it the next time.(if I do another one :] ) Thanks for the help

Are you saying you just installed Windows 7 ?

Did you choose custom or upgrade ?

Did you format the install partition ?

It only takes 15 minutes to install windows, if you`re not happy I`d do it again

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm sure the problem is because I transferred a 32bit xp pro system to the new w7 install. After doing some more research, kinda surprising it worked at all. I'll do a clean install some day when I can find time and initiative. I used to enjoy playing with computers, but my old brain doesn't work as well as it once did, and kinda turns the fun into frustration sometime. Thanks for the link.

WET is not the best way to transfer data and not reliable, better to do it manually.

As long as they are intact on the backup device you have no worries, re install windows and just copy and paste the data you actually want back to windows.

Keep windows as lite as possible
