Windows Easy Transfer freezes when I deselect i386

I have an easy transfer file on a backup disk taken before I upgraded from xp to W7. I didn't restore everything from from xp using windows E.T. as I reasoned I could do so at a later date if needed. Now when I attempt to restore individual files I must also select I386. If I fail to do so Windows E.T. freezes.

Does anybody know if there is a way around this as I don't need I386 and it is quite large?

This is why I recommend not using a file transfer program in Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which offers the easiest method and reminders of what not to forget.

If you didn't correctly delete all partitions before creating/formatting New when installing Win7 on an XP PC, then it might have a windows.old folder in C:/ which contains the entire old install. Browse into Documents and Settings to Select All, then drag the group to the corresponding User folder on left-hand Explorer bar. You may need to sort them more into Win7 User folders.

You can extract the files in WET using MigRecover Utility for Microsoft’s Windows Easy Transfer | Visser Labs . In Step 2 I would copy the .mig file before renaming it rather than Move it so you still have WET access in case it fails.

If this fails and buggy WET won't restore without I386 go ahead an restore and then delete it. Make sure it also doesn't transfer any hidden AppData files as these are a corruption path into a new install. Unhide Hidden Files in Control Panel>Files Options>View, Take pictures of all AppData files before restore then delete any intruders afterwards.

Thanks for that. Don't like the idea of copying the WET file back to C:\ drive so probably will just continue to delete the i386 folder after its completed.
