Windows Easy Transfer issues

I am using Windows Easy Transfer to copy all my Outlook stuff (emails, accounts, rules etc) from my desktop-build (see my system specs) to a brand new laptop (a HP dv6-3040us). Both have Outlook 2007 installed. The laptop has Win 7 Professional.

Problem is that WET on the desktop is not giving me the choice to copy my Outlook stuff. I know that this is possible since I have done it many times before on different computers running various OS. It seemed like a cleaner, more efficient way to copy Outlook stuff.

WET on the desktop is not even 'seeing' my user account, which is the account I am currently logged into.

Without performing a repair install, how I can fix this problem on the desktop? The desktop is scheduled for a clean install next week, or sooner if WET would do it's job.

WET on the laptop seems fine.

I'm trying WET as if to tranfer from my PC. I'm not getting any MS Office/Outlook files loaded to WET.

It might not make a difference but how were you going to do the tranfer?
It gives you three choices. Only want to know so I can try the same.
That is odd. I'll keep looking.

Hmmmm...

Could be WET versions for Vista & XP that gave options for email, but I thought that it worked on 7.

I found a way to check what you want to transfer- or try at least.
I can't figure out where Office or Outlook are installed to track them through WET.
WET gives you folders etc. but not contents you need to know the right one in advance to select it in WET.

Went thru C) my HD and Search all I find is shortcuts for Office/Outlook. It is installed but I don't know where.

Tried that already.

BUT, perhaps the fact WET on my desktop is not "seeing" & scanning my user account is causing my problems.

After doing what you said, I launch Outlook. It launches the wizard to set up an account. With WET (on Vista), I didn't ever have to manually set up any accounts. This was helpful given that I have multiple accounts in Outlook.

Use the Import/Export wizard in Outlook for this instead. WET is better for your whole profile and personal files (not outlook data files). Or just copy the data files to some media and then transfer it to new pc, then add data file to outlook.

Outlook data files in: C:\Users\your-user-id\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\ "Outlook.pst"

I would like to point out that while WET is good when it works.
It unfortunately doesn't work all the time.
I have seen many instances of it failing altogether, or stalling out at a random points.

I personally do not use WET anymore because of all the problems I have seen and had with it.

It is easier and faster in most cases to just transfer the data manually and reconfigure apps as needed.
