All you need to do is to download the file below.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...31-973A-45C7-A4EC-4928FA173266&displaylang=en
Load it onto the new XP build and you should be able to transfer the files and settings onto the new machine.
You can pick and choose what gets transferred.

Yes, I made it from Windows Easy Transfer. I planning to transfer the files to my new windows xp computer, but the option doesn't show up.

All you need to do is to download the file below.
Download details: Windows Easy Transfer for Windows XP
Load it onto the new XP build and you should be able to transfer the files and settings onto the new machine.
You can pick and choose what gets transferred.

I was using the one on Windows 7 installation disc

I have my backup in my external hard drive, so I selected the external option.

Where is the "transfer to new computer" option?

Using the "This is my new computer" expands the files and settings from the mig file to the computer your running it from.

Edit: Are you trying to use the Windows Easy Transfer from the Windows 7 DVD to move settings to XP? With that one you can only move settings from XP/Vista to Windows 7. Hence the missing option.

I have used the Windows easy Transfer 4 times now to an external HD

Last time was 132 gb's of files, programs, settings, docs, etc.

Worked perfectly each time

Windows Easy Transfer does not exist in XP (if it does then i missed it). Follow this tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11470-windows-easy-transfer-transfer-computers.html and you should have all the info you need.

You do not need to have 2 machines connected in order to transfer files & settings

Yeah I know that, but it's missing. When I have transfer all my files to a external harddrive for my new xp computer :huh:

For XP to XP your going to want to use 'file and settings transfer wizard' built into XP. There is a guide on the MS website

Thanks for your reply, but I've already exported in a MIG file , Are there any alternative software of unzipping MIG files?

I think you have two options.

1. Install Windows 7 and then use Windows Easy Transfer to extract the file and settings to the Windows 7 Install then copy the files out you want.
2. Use a third party tool to get at the files.

Did a search myself and found a file on the torrent sites called.
Microsoft SaveData.MIG Extraction Tool for Windows Easy Transfer
just google it. Not used it or tried it so can't vouch for it sorry.

When I tried it - it extracted fine - just could not create the destination file - seems there was a problem trying to write direct to Root of the drive on 7.

You probably won't get that on XP.

The original mig was not altered or damaged by the extraction.

I typed in MigRecover.exe <G:\SaveData.MIG> <D:\>

But this error appeared:
< was unexpected at this time

If I didn't use <> , This error appeared:
'MigRecover.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

*Note: G:\ is an external hard drive

Assuming you extracted the .zip to the root of C:

MD C:\MIGRECOVER\RECOVER

CD C:\MIGRECOVER

MIGRECOVER.EXE savedata.mig C:\MIGRECOVER\RECOVER

NB: Replace savedata.mig in the last command with the full path name of the .MIG file you wish to recover.

If that is part of the path , then yes, you need to include it.

I don't use XP, but I think if you click on the file - there is the full path displayed at the top of the window?

A bit like this - if it is exactly like this, you also need \filename at the end:



BTW That first > is already there , it is called the prompt.
