Solved Windows explorer constantly not responding on right click

Hi guys

Just got a new laptop and everything was running fine until recently when I noticed that everytime I right click on the desk top to refresh or click "gadgets" or "screen resolution" windows explorer will freeze up on me and I have to restart it. Also happened when I was trying to right click paste something into a folder.
Now it happens almost all the time when I do the above. What's wrong and what can I do?

Update, and run an Anti-Virus scan. What Anti-Virus & Firewall program/s are installed?

Update Windows.
Microsoft Update

Download Malwarebytes, scan and fix anything it finds.

Download CCleaner, scan, and fix anything it finds.
Use the Registry clean button a few times until there are no more results.

problem still persists

Thanks for the reply.

I tried system restore but the farthest I can restore is to 3 days ago. But the problem came up about 1 week ago.
I also did sfc scan and it said it did pick up some corrupt files but was not able to fix some of them, and that details are in the CBS log which I cannot open.
I have installed the latest windows updates; have run the malwarebytes program; and have run the ccleaner several times.
The current anti-virus I am using is TrendMicro antivirus, and according to it my system is clean, but I am still getting the same issue. Now it pretty much happens everytime I right click and click refresh on desktop or go into any of the options "screen resolution" "gadgets" or "Personalize"

What should I do now? cheers.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - Refer here.

If SFC could not fix something, then run the command again to see if it may be able to the next time. Sometimesit may take running the sfc /scannow command 3 or more times to completely fix everything that it's able to.

If still not, then you can use the steps in the

Tip of the OPTION THREE section below to manually replace the files that SFC could not fix.

OPTION Three:
How to See and Read Only the "SFC" Scan Results from the CBS.LOG
NOTE: When SFC runs, it logs it's actions into the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. The steps in this option will show you how to see only the specific SFC entries with the [SR] tags in this CBS.log. This can be helpful to show you what files SFC could not fix automatically if you wanted to try and manually replace them.

1. Open a elevated command prompt (right click -> Run as administrator).

2. In the elevated command prompt, copy and paste the command below and press Enter. (See screenshot below)
NOTE: This will place a sfcdetails.txt file on your desktop with only the SFC scan result details from the CBS.LOG in it.

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

3. Close the elevated command prompt.

4. Open the sfcdetails.txt file on your desktop to see the SFC scan details in the CBS.LOG.

5. You can safely delete the sfcdetails.txt file afterwards if you like.

Hi, I was not given a windows 7 instal disk when I purchased the laptop, apparently they don't give them out anymore.
I've run sfc scan a few times and still some files are corrupted.

sfcdetails shows these are the problems:

The next option on the list would be a Microsoft Startup Repair.

What is the Brand and Model of your Laptop?

If your computer has a Recovery Partition of the Hard Drive you can try this:

Reboot, as the computer begins to start you will get some sort of manufacturer's splash screen. When you see this screen, start taping the F10 key, if your computer brand is HP or Sony.

F11 key, if your computer brand is eMachine, Gateway, or Lenova.

This will take you into the hidden Recovery Partiton. Once in there, look for the option, Startup Repair. Click that and follow the prompts. After it completes and your system is rebooted, see if the problem is resolved.

thanks for the responses guys!

my computer is an asus n55sf. I tried pressing f10 and f11 on asus logo screen and nothing happens, I even tried f7 f8 and f9 (restarted computer about 10 times), still nothing.

I have run sfc scan more than 3 times and after reboot too.
