The last time I was using my computer, windows explorer crashed for the first time, and so I restarted thinking that would solve the problem. When I logged in, it showed a black screen with only my mouse cursor and some white text labeling it Windows 7. The only thing I can do is access the task manager. Right clicking does nothing, and when I try to run "explorer.exe" there is no response.

"Windows Explorer has encountered an error"

:D I am getting a frequent Windows Explorer has restarted, sorry for the inconvenience. I am pretty sure it has to do with the amount of data I play with and their locations. At this point, I will not pay for Windows 7 for this reason alone. Let me know which files I can send you or any other suggestions.

You running 32 bit? could you go into event viewer (type event viewer in search) go to the app tab and see what errors listed relate to this problem. Other thing I noticed is 2 gigs of ram. thats not alot. when explorer crashes does it turn a milky white color and the cursor changes to the hour glass (busy)?

2GB of memory is too little? Did you take into consideration that I am running a 1.5TB Seagate and a 500GB WD MyBook? Those things spin off after 5 hours and I do believe that is related to my issues. The seagate resumes like an old 5 1/4 dinosaur and that is what I have narrowed it down to. Your memory issue? Tell me now why I can throw 8GB into a pc and get a "rating" from windows to only be .7 percent better than it's 2GB counterprt?\\\

hibernate was a nice addition to windows, but we get sound not working out of hibernate, and what not...
I jst want to carry this thread on. There are no programs causing explorer to want to restart/ DRINK!

Ken offered to help you.. instead of getting rhetorical, why not try what he suggests ... or slog your way through your problem on your own...

Running Windows 7 Professional x64 obtained through MSDNAA

I'm having a similar issue I went to event viewer and I have about 6 instances of a windows explorer crash... quite unfortunate to say the least. Didn't they have this problem in the beta? I did try a couple of the fixes that others used for the beta but to no avail.

I actually reinstalled the OS two times I did a clean install each time. It seems like everytime I run the Steam game client and I'm working with windows explorer it will crash for some reason.

Tell me what information you need from the event viewer I really want to get this squared away as Win 7 is much quicker than Vista and I would hate to go back to it.
