When I right-click a drive and select 'properties' in Windows Explorer, it crashes. It doesn't matter what the drive is (flash, external, internal)..

Can I fix this?

3dpiper,
Now that is a new one to me.

When I find something that strange on a person's computer, then I run MalwareBytes and Microsoft Security Essentials.

Alghough you might want to try running SFC /SCANNOW from an elevated command prompt.

Keep running SFC until you get a clean bill of health from the program.

Here are a link:

And here is a how-to:
________________________________________
ANTI-VIRUS - VIRUS and MALWARE REMOVAL / PROTECTION
1. Download MalwareBytes. Malwarebytes Malwarebytes
2. Disconnect from the Internet.
3. Disable your present antivirus software and firewall.
4. Remove your present antivirus software and firewall.
5. Install and run the MalwareBytes Quick Scan (remove any bad guys). 3min 29secs on my laptop.
6. Reconnect to Internet.
7. Update MalwareBytes.
8. Run malwarebytes quick scan again.(remove any bad guys). 3min 38secs on my laptop.
9. Run MalwareBytes full scan. 16min 8secs on my laptop. With large, full disk ~2hours.
A. Disable your present antivirus software and firewall
B. Remove your present antivirus software
C. Download Microsoft Security Essentials.
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
D. Run Microsoft Security Essentials. Quick Scan - ~8 min on my laptop.
E. Run Microsoft Security Essentials. Full Scan - ~ 1hr 50 min on my laptop.
Now I advise you to uninstall MalwareBytes and only install again when and if you need it.
Why?, you ask. Leaving MalwareBytes installed slowed my system. AutoRuns showed MalwareBytes processes running even after exiting from MalwareBytes.

Another issue causing the crash

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and ended up with explorer crashing shortly after right clicking and selecting properties. After trying most recommended fixes with no result I uninstalled Norton Antivirus. I had a version of Norton that was supported on the previous operating system but was not supported on Windows 7 although it appeared to be working fine.

Once I uninstalled Norton the crashes stopped.

Win7 Explorer crashes when selecting disc properties via context menu

I was also having problems with Windows explorer crashing when trying to look at disc properties by right clicking and using the context menu. It was fine when looking at files but not the C or D drives on my machine.
Not sure what started it happening as I haven’t installed any software lately but it may have been due to a Microsoft update.
I’m running Win 7 Pro 64 and deleting this reg key worked for me :D
