I'm getting the following error (intermittently): "Windows Explorer has stopped working".

What do I need to do to fix this. Anti virus up-to-date; scanned for viruses, malware, spyware, adware.... computer clean.

All Windows updates current.

I'm getting this error while on the internet (IE8) and when I go to open some Word files.

Anyone else having this issue and know how to fix it? Thanks for your help in advance.

I followed the links for making sure there were no viruses/malware/spyware and system is clean.
I checked the drivers and all are up-to-date - no issues.
I followed the links for System File Checker and when I pull up the log, with today's date, there are several files showing up as unable to be repaired ("Cannot repair member file [l:26{13}]"msfeedsbs.mof" ...... Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, file is missing"

At the end of the log is "Verify and Repair Transaction completed. All files and registry keys listed in this transactio have been successfully repaired."

Does this mean that it did or didn't work? Thans for your help.

Still having the same issue with getting error saying "Windows Explorer has stopped working...".

After running all the tests under the above link from Sir George (thank you by the way)- Error: Windows Explorer has stopped working -and running the System File Checker tool, there was one file that could not be repaired. An excerpt from the SFC details log follows:

2012-10-23 10:29:20, Info CSI 00000271 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:26{13}]"msfeedsbs.mof" of Microsoft-Windows-IE-Feedsbs, Version = 8.0.7601.17514, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_INTEL (0), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, file is missing
2012-10-23 10:29:23, Info CSI 00000272 [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:26{13}]"msfeedsbs.mof" of Microsoft-Windows-IE-Feedsbs, Version = 8.0.7601.17514, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_INTEL (0), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, file is missing
2012-10-23 10:29:23, Info CSI 00000273 [SR] This component was referenced by [l:210{105}]"Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~8.0.7601.17514.Internet-Explorer-amd64"
2012-10-23 10:29:23, Info CSI 00000274 [SR] Could not reproject corrupted file [ml:58{29},l:56{28}]"\??\C:\Windows\SysWOW64\wbem"\[l:26{13}]"msfeedsbs.mof"; source file in store is also corrupted.

I have found there are other locations for this file (e.g. c:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-ie-feedsbs.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_8.0.7600.16385_en-us_630a8bf6b08beac6\ - this one is for the 32 bit version;

and

c:\Windows\SysWOW64\wbem\c:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-ie-feedsbs_31bf3856ad364e35_8.0.7600.16385_none_72fd27e86b7502e9\c:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-ie-feedsbs_31bf3856ad364e35_8.0.7600.16385_none_16de8c64b31791b3\

for the 64 bit version.

My question: how do I determine if it is the 32-bit or 64-bit version that I need to replace and once that is determined, how do I go about replacing it?

Anyone had to go thru this and, if so, please let me know how to do this also. Thank you!!!
