Windows Explorer needs to restart

I'm trying to copy a folder on my backup drive to insert on C: I start on my backup drive and copy the folder, then I go to the C: drive click on "Program files (X86)". I then right click in order to choose "paste". I get a windoe saaying that Windows Explorer has stopped working and needs to restart. It doesn't appear to restart and the folder is not pasted. What can I do? Thank you

An additional bit of information. If I right click any folder in the c: drive, I get the response that "Windows Explorer has stopped working". I can start Windows Explorer up again with no problem unless I try to right click on a folder.

Generally speaking, you wouldn't want to paste anything into Program Files (x86).

That's where installed programs live. Anything there was likely put there by the formal installation of a program.

What folder are you trying to paste in there? I'd expect that to cause problems. If it's a program folder, I wouldn't expect the pasted program to work.

More info needed about what you are trying to accomplish.

If you are trying to install a program on C, then do it the old-fashioned way, without using a paste from somewhere else.

I had a folder in "Program Files (x86) that contained a checkbook program that had become bad. I had a backup folder on my external drive that contained a valid checkbook folder. I deleted the checkbook folder in "Program Files (x86) with the intent of replacing it with my backup. By the way, I tried using the right click on other folders besides "Program Files (x86) and got the same result.
