Windows Explorer Problem - Need Help

Hello,
I have associated a .tar.gz file to open always using windows explorer by mistake. the problem is that when I try to associate the file again with another program, the checkbox that says "Always use this program to open that kind of file" is disabled.
and when I open this file, the processor goes to 100% and the task manager keep starting new processes all of them are called explorer, I don't know what to do ! please help.

Do a system restore to a point before you made the association....

Otherwise, just for a check, Open an elevated command prompt (start > all programs> accessories > command prompt, right click it and run as admin), type sfc /scannow and hit enter. Wait for the scan to be completed, and restart. If the issue is due to any system file corruption, that will be fixed by it.
