Whenever I put in a usb drive - whether it's a pen drive or a hard drive on a usb adapter, Windows Explorer lists it as "local drive" or "removable drive". It didn't use to be this way. In the Win Explorer Properties dialog, the label text box is blank. Renaming the drive there is not reflected in the Explorer interface, but it is when I call up a CMD window and execute "VOL G:".

SFC found no violations.

On some fat32 pen drives the label is picked up, others not; but mostly not. I haven't found rhyme or reason for the behavior.
