Windows Freeze when playing any media (Fixed).

Hello, I hope someone can suggest a fix for this problem, I am running windows 7 on NVidia GeForce 8500 GT. The problem is that Windows randomly freezes when I play any type of media, whether I used Media Player or any other media player software or when I run ProgDVB or DVBdream, some times it will run for few hours before it freezes and other times it will run for minutes then it freezes, freezing here is complete lock and I have to turn the pc off then on again.

I installed the latest NVidia driver 8.16.11.9062 dated 17 August 2009, but the problem remains.

Any input is appreciated.

Lockups are difficult to troubleshoot in a deterministic manner.

A good starting point is to update your BIOS and all of your drivers to the latest available versions, not just the video. If that doesn't work, try uninstalling your antivirus and any 3rd-party firewalls as a test (disabling them is not enough).

I fixed the problem by updating the SkyStar2 PCI drivers from the manufacturers website, they just released a Windows 7 compatible driver that fixed the problem.

Excellent. Thanks for the confirmation. It may help somebody else to resolve their own SkyStar2-related issues.
