Hi, this is my first post on this forum. This problem has occured after I closed my gateway laptop while hurrying to school. Windows can boot into safe mode but it cannot make it past "Starting Windows" and I cannot enter Startup Repair. I've tried booting the repair disk on CD and Usb and it does the loading windows green bar thingy and the screen goes black. Since I cannot enter any repair services from boot, I can't reset it to factory settings. Is there any way you guys can help?

Hello there!

Could you try this option? http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/666-advanced-boot-options.html then click on Repair option by here http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html then http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html

Sorry for the late reply, I have just tried that and it doesn't work sadly. It'll make it past "windows is loading files" and then I'll see the green bar for about 1 second and then the screen goes black.

Boot into BIOS setup to see if your hard drive is detected under Storage, SATA, Boot order. If not it's either bad or lost its connection. You can google your model + replace hard drive to see how to reinstall it to see if you can get it to connect. If not then replace it. The best upgrade one can have is an SSD, lightning fast. Reinstall doing a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If HD is detected, try working through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

You'll need to be able to boot a disk, which are all provided as needed in tutorial link. Most failure to do so is a user failure, but you may need to reset the BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS. Triggering BIOS setup or F8 options sometimes takes several attempts to get the timing correct.
