Windows going to startup repair

Hey guys,

Before I'm posting this let me say I've been googling and I have the exact same problem as this guy, it reads:

A

loha!
When I woke up this morning... Vista would not load.

1. It automatically goes into the Startup Repair mode, and that has no effect.
2. The System restore does not restore back to a point earlier in time.
3. Within the System Recovery Options, there is no option to open a command prompt.

- I would love to view/copy my files from C: drive to an external hard drive.
- I do not have the original OS disk(s).

Is there a way that I can get Windows to open?
Or, is there a way to open a command prompt and save my files remaining on C:?
Or, is there a way to do this from BIOS?
Or, is there a way to run an OS from a boot disk, yet view/copy my files from C:?

He wasn't able to fix it, only to go through a program called knoppix and backup his files.
Is there anyway to actually fix the problem?

hi there download the linux ubuntu live cd burn the iso file to disc :ar: Download | Ubuntu boot from the disc while you are in ubuntu copy your files to a external drive
then reinstall windows.

Just a small question. I have to install Ubuntu right?
But won't doing that just create a new partition and when it loads, all my files will be in the "windows partition"?

YOu should be able to access your files

thanks rich no you dont install it you boot from it. the iso image you download and burn to a disc is the ubuntu installer yes, but it also a live bootable operating system.
