"Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" - Check NOW?

I don't understand this. After a BSOD and reboot, why are the only options in the window that appears 'Check Later' (which never happens when I choose it) or 'Cancel'. No 'Check Now' option?? How is this window supposed to work?

I'm not sure what steps you've taken already, but a search of Microsoft has 9 results. Maybe the 1st or 2nd would answer your question.

Thanks, I have used the BSOD forum before, but just wanted to know how the MS window works. What happens if you choose 'Check Later'? It never seems to. Why no way to 'Check Now'. Seems a pointless window..

It's historical (backwards 'compatible'). In previous versions of Windows you could check now. I'm not sure when it changed (XP, maybe Vista) but it's better to check the drive without anythng running - before Windows loads drivers and services that hit the disk.

The disk is normally checked after the next boot.
