Just a word of warning folks - It seems to not honor your regional keyboard settings when you initially set your strict secure password.

When I restarted I couldn't login until I substituted my UK keyboard layout to US making the # that I typed on my password to a \ as the key position would be on a US keyboard

At least I figured this out before reloading lol

It gets worse, when I try to install the connector on my PC.....

I can't believe this has not been fixed! This issue has been present since the very first 'Vail' leak, prior to even the first official beta with drive extender.

That connector screen doesn't look very promising either.

I honestly don't think this product was ready for release, IMHO a second RC was surely the way to go.

I pretty much give up for now and call WHS2011 as a total FAIL.

I felt they were going to bury this product anyway after this release. This isn't a good sign if you are already throwing in the towel. Windows ME anyone?

Ack... sigh. I'll be waiting for more feedback I guess.

The newer remote connection features looked nice, but lack of DE was already killing me. And I use that more than the remote features.

I'll probaby hang onto my home grown WHS1 box till it fails at this point, then build a completely new machine later with a massive increase in storage up front.

I thought I'd give my laptop a try and it fails with the same error

I hope Steve Ballmer has somebody nuts on the chopping block tomorrow as this is nowhere near ready for release!!!

Best way to kill a product is to come out of the gate making a bad impression. Honestly, I feel that Microsoft sees this as a failing initiative and doesn't feel like putting the time and effort into making it a stellar product. Again, just gut feel here.

I'm really perplexed as to why they killed about the only redeeming feature of this product the DE.

The facility to add more and more shared / network storage is a MUST these days especially with loads more multi-media type data than just documents.

Also even FAMILIES can grow so the number of computers connected to the network will also grow together with the storage requirement.

It will be interesting to see what sales of this product are actually like when it starts shipping to REAL customers.

I'm also surprised about the QC dept -- surely they must do SOME testing before they allow a product out of the door. To have it fail on fairly basic tests seems a real CARDINAL SIN.

If it was in BETA or specified that product is only for testing and is potentailly unstable then no probs but an RTM type release which must be near final ?????.

I don't have the knowledge to give a en-dept study of any Operating System. I do have enough to expect the simple thing like a keyboard to work as it should. When you buy a car in America you expect the steering wheel to be on the lift side. Q/C my aching ying yang.

I think MS want shot of this product asap -- even the base market its intended for will be disappointed with the data extender feature being withdrawn.

I'll be very interested in the market stats of this product when it finally hits the market.

If you've got to start playing around with NAS and SCSI / RAID cards to make this even a half way decently useful product then the whole purpose of a SIMPLE "Mom and Pop" server has gone the Bye Bye.

Big thumbs down on this product.

BTW since a lot of development stuff is outsourced to India I'm at a loss to understand why it would only work with US keyboard settings

India AFAIK has far more cultural / historical ties and links with the UK than the US -- even to the extent that they play cricket and won the Cricket World cup recently -- great final even for those who don't normally understand or watch the game.

I doubt that we will be able to get any numbers from Microsoft where this product is concerned as Microsoft is usually reluctant to release numbers at all unless the uptake is stellar (such as Windows 7). I hope I am wrong and even more I hope that WHS v2 is a real success but I'm rather skeptical about the lifespan and stability of this new version. I decided to stay with v1 which is more than getting the job done for me and take a wait and see approach.

Congrats to all who upgraded successfully and hope to see your reviews of this new direction in the near future....I really don't trust paid reviewers, I do trust the observations of the loyal Windows 7 forum users who are willing to state both PRO and CON.
