Hi I am installing win7 on a machine which can not boot from dvd or usb, only cd or hdd. After several attempts I finally figured out a method using another hdd with the windows installation files to install onto my hdd. It worked but since windows decides its own location for boot loader it put it on the installation drive because it figures I am too dumb to switch the boot order in the bios.

Please help!

I thought i had it

I found a 66mhz pci sataraid host adapter card installed it and a sata dvd drive and a sata hard drive. It boots the windows dvd and gets to the screen where I choose the disk and says windows cannot install to this location because your bios may not support booting from it.

Any suggestions, and no I cant post a screenshot because its not installed yet

Reading post #1 a few more time I thought you had Window 7 installed and were having partition problems and boot order problems in the bios.

SIW2 is a expert in such matters I will just watch and learn.

From post #1
**I finally figured out a method using another hdd with the windows installation files to install onto my hdd.

**It worked but since windows decides its own location for boot loader it put it on the installation drive

Because of the time zones it might be a little before SIW2 can get back.
Just hang in there.

What happened to the install you had. We could easily have adjusted it to boot itself if you'd have posted back the requested information.

As to why the gerryrigged install is not working, do you have a UEFI BIOS? If so set it to Legacy or CSM mode to try install. If you want a UEFI install then you must boot the device as a UEFI device in Boot menu.
