Windows Installer & iTunes

Hello, I'd really appreciate some help, this has been screwing me over to the point of wanting to kill somone.

I got a new iPod and I want to update the software on it, so I had to update to iTunes 10, the installation always fails for iTunes or more specifically Quicktime "The installation of Quicktime failed. iTunes requires Quicktime."

I go to uninstall all traces of Apple programs on my computer on Uninstall Programs. I do it in order like it says on the Apple support site.

It always says "An installation for <Program etc, quicktime, bonjour, itunes> is currently suspended you need to undo the change made or somthing, I click yes and shortly after that the installation fails, usually leaving behind "the windows installer service could not be accessed".

I'm guessing that I just can't install Quicktime because Windows Installer always screws up.

To make matters worse, my computers' Windows Explorer always crashes unexpectedly so I have to restore my computer to an earlier time, now I've restored it, I can't even use my old iTunes because it says "iTunes was not installed correctly, please resinstall iTunes.". So now I can't even use my iPod.

I think it's just Windows Installer screwing up so I can't install Quicktime.

Please help, this is driving me crazy.

Why do you think Windows Installer is screwing up? Why is Apple's installer not the one screwing up? Anyways its probably leaving behind broken settings all over the place, in the Registry and other place. I bet it is still install crap directly into the Windows directory as well.

I've got to say, I have an iPod (as well as an iPad) and therefore need iTunes myself. iTunes on Windows is so bad, that the only reason I have it is that the baby loves watching cartoons on the iPad/iPod and iPad/iPod require iTunes, they just won't work without them. Really annoying! I'm very happy I did not pay for those devices - no money for Apple from me!

Now, as far as installing, I have iTunes installed on Vista 64-bit, no problems at all for the installation (how it works is another story). However, iTunes contaminates the system by installing lots of other things, such as Quicktime, Bonjour, etc. Disabling any one of those will disable iTunes. That's why I keep a separate OS just for iTunes, this way my main work system is free from this ...ware.

If you have previously failed to install correctly and need to install again, try using Revo Uninstaller to hunt down all remnants of the Apple software and get rid of them. Then search manually for Apple related folders in Program Files, Common Files, Program Data, AppData and so on. Delete all of them. Clean up the temporary folder, also try using CCleaner registry clean, but do not blindly delete all items it finds, go through the list, find Apple-related items and delete those (do not delete something you're not sure what it is), restart - in other words make sure there is nothing on your system that is Apple related. Then install iTunes + Quicktime and agree to everything. Usually this works.

If not, then I guess Apple support should have some ideas, don't they have Customer Service or something?

i had a somewhat problem, it would not let me install Itunes without installing a new version of quicktime, even though i had quicktime installed already. I uninstalled quicktime and then installed itunes again and it worked.
