Windows installer launches constantly

Installer launches whenever an Office app is started. The only time it does not launch is when I open Word or Excel through an existing document. I'm using Office 2007, however I still use FrontPage from Office 2003. When I start that app, the installer launches, and launches again for every page or web site I open. I don't see this problem on this forum, but it's all over the XP and Vista forums. I have tried everything they suggest, including changing registry settings and reinstalling the 2007 and 2003 apps in a different order nothing works. Am I going to have to go back to XP?

What are these steps you have done?

I have changed registry settings in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft. I'd have to go back and look up the specifics. Those changes did not work and I restored the original settings. In addition, I uninstalled Office and FrontPage, then reinstalled FrontPage (2003) first followed by Office (2007) as suggested on one forum. Another forum post suggested deleting any relevant desktop shortcuts and creating them fresh. I did that too. It hardly mattered since installer pops up when you start these apps directly from the original exe in the program files. And just an aside. I recently installed Acrobat 9. Now Windows installer starts an Acrobat install on opening a wide variety of files. Of course I can simply uninstall Acrobat 9 and live without it. That's not the case with Word and FrontPage.

I had this problem before too. Eventually I had to end up doing a clean install of the OS, because nobody could figure out what it was. I tried everything under the sun too. I hope you have better luck than I did. A clean OS install worked, but I'm sure you don't want to have to do that. I think Office had a hiccup during the install that completely messed it up. Wish I had another suggestion for you. I know how frustrated you must be with that installer popping up all the time. It drove me completely NUTS!

isnt this something to do with install settings? ie; you have to tick if you want to run from disk, run from hard drive or not to install?? not sure though but i remember ages ago someone had this problem and this was the fix, he had all the apps of office ticked to run from the disk? not sure what version of office it was im afraid, was a while ago??

That's a good suggestion, and I don't believe I tried that before. Guess we'll have to wait and see if it works. I'm repping you for the suggestion though. ;)

Not the case here since Office was installed using all defaults. I'm afraid MadMaxData is probably right. Sorry you've had the problem too, but I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one having this problem with Windows 9. There's nothing on the the MS site about it. I can wipe and reinstall without too much hassle since I have a back up machine and all data on separate drives. But I won't bet that will end the problem either.
