Greetings:

I have 2 unusual file folders at the root of my C:\ drive. The names of both are alphanumeric gibberish, like:

af216ca03f1720edf1e7a15b650cbd63

One of the items contained therein is identified as a "Windows Installer Patch". There are numerous subfolders labeled "1042" , "1043", et. seq. Both folders are locked and i can't access any of the content even with Administrator's priveleges. These certainly look like leftovers of some kind that should be discarded. Should i discard them, and if so how to do it given the access problem?

Thanks!

Tim

90% of the time those folders are from dling updates. the other 20% of the time those are system restore folders. If you try and delete and that fails that means it could be for system restore.

Thanks for the response! I'm sure you're right but it's odd that these restore files aren't hidden in the way they seem to be on other systems.

Yea well windows doesn't care about us. they care about them. They make it look neat and nice in the beginning than your hd is messy due to all the updates and bullship.

Those are temporary files used for installing Windows Updates. You can delete them.
