Hi, the Internet Explorer icon just dissappeared from the windows bar on the bottom of the screen. Instead, a white blank icon replaced it. How can I get the normal icon back? Thanks for your feedback.

Hello bakelite, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If the IE shortcut still works, then you might see if rebuilding the icon cache may help.

If not on both, then you could see if unpinning the icon, then pinning the iexplore.exe file below to your taskbar to recreate it may show better.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

Hope this helps for now, :)
Shawn

Brink:
I first tried the download file to do the automatic cache rebuild. It got rid of the white space but did not bring back the internet explorer icon. So I went the re-pinning route and that worked. Why do you think the internet explorer icon would just disappear like that? And, thanks for the fix ideas.

Oh, I should mention that clicking on the white space where the internet explorer icon should have been did nothing. internet explorer would not run when the white space was clicked on, however, and strangely, there were some other menu choices, like last session, or bing news or the like, that when clicked on, did run. Is this weird? Thanks for your feedback.

It appears that the link for the pinned shortcut on the taskbar got broken somehow. I'm glad to hear that repining the iexplore.exe file worked for you. :)
