Hi,

You can use any combination of those versions, as long as each version has its own unique licence key. Each Windows installation requires its own unique validation key.

For corporate environments, Volume Licensing is often a better route:

Golden,
I always think of an assumption that Windows Home Edition's are in used only for home not in a business.. and so with your reply what you are trying to say is that it is OK for the Company/Business to install this two OS's without any issues on license. Just a confirmation. ;p

Microsoft doesn't care what OS you use at home/work/wherever, as long as you have a valid key.

Hi,

Proffesional and Ultimate have more features that corporate environments can make use of off, for example gpedit to control users access to the system. But Microsoft makes no insistance that Home Premium or Start cannot be used in this environment.

Each Windows installation requires its own unique validation key.

that's not always the case. example, family 3 user packs which use a single key for up to 3 pc's. there's other licensing arrangements also.

Hi there

The main reason why HOME users choose professional or Ultimate is probably for 1 or all of these reasons:

1) RDP : Home Premium doesn't allow you TO RDP to it (You can RDP to other computers FROM IT)

2) My main Gripe : Language packs cannot be installed -- This BUGS me -- I'm lucky since I get from work a copy of ENTERPRISE but lots of people often want or NEED to work in more than one Language.

3) Bit Locker (quite good) and a few other eseoteric features.

1 and particularly 2 make Windows Home Premium no good for me.

But back to the OP's question -- If you've got a valid key and conform to the EULA then Ms don't care.

For example these two copies of the OS might be used as demos at a small company to encourage people who at home might only have limited hardware to be able to use starter edition at home to connect to email etc etc.

( To FuturDreamz ==> Features ALSO useful to individuals as per 1) 2) and 3) ).

Cheers
jimbo

The various editions of Windows are merely descriptions of their functionality - not restrictions on their use.

You can use any edition wherever you like - but bear in mind that only Pro and Ultimate can join Domain-based networks (run using a proper server). All editions can join a normal peer-to-peer network with a hoime router or switch.

'YOU' cannot install Starter edition - as it is OEM-only, which means that it must be pre-installed on the PC by the manufacturer.

It makes no difference - read the OEM System Builder terms (which you agree to by opening the pack) here.....
