Solved Windows Live error message

I am receiving the following message can anyone help please? The host 'smpt.talktalk.net' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly.

Subject 'test'
Server: 'smpt.talktalk.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0D
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No
Socket Error: 11004

Hi Brian-

Go to Accessories and right click on Command Prompt. Select Run as Administrator.

Type in SFC /Scannow.

Let it run. Does it find and fix any files? If so, reboot and run it again just to make sure it doesn't find any more errors.

Thank you, wither 2, I've done as you suggested but the problem still remains. I have removed the email account and then re-entered it but - again with a negative result. Unfortunately, Talktalk have been unable to assist. I'm sorry to trouble you further but is there any other action you can suggest?

As I understand it, the scan didn't find any problems. Is that correct?

Why is Talktalk unable to assist? Did they try to help you?

That's right the scan did not find any problems. The message I received was 'Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations'. As far as Talktalk was concerned, I spend 35 minutes on the 'phone with a Representative who was obviously working to a script and whose knowledge was very limited - in the end I gave up in frustration!!

Thank you this has been most helpful. I have removed the Account and re-installed it with the recommended settings. As a result, I can now sent messages via the Talktalk Account but cannot receive them.

It sounds like what it talks about in that link. WLM is being blocked from the server that sends the e-mails to you. Did you try method 2 in that link?

Are you getting any error messages?

Yes, I have tried the other method. I have two email accounts in Windows live mail. The other works fine but the Talktalk account is the problem; I can now send messages but not receive them and I no longer receive error messages.

I'm using Windows Mail so I don't know if you will have the same settings-

Open Tools, Options. In the Advanced tab, select Maintenance. In trouble shooting, check the box for Mail for getting a log. Apply the change when you exit that screen.

Try sending a message to that account using your other account.

Do you get a log?

In the Maintenance area, click on Store Folder to see where your files are saved. Look in there for WindowsLiveMail.log.
