Windows Live Mail Errors

Hi Guys, I've been reading a lot of posts on various sites about Windows Live Mail not opening email links, EG: Application does not exist. I've had this problem my self but none of the posted solutions worked. Consequently i spent hours trying to fix it. Everything was listed in the Default Programs but I still could not open my email links. Then, I noticed in the Mail Options a little notice which said. "Internet Explorer 9 64bit can not be the default browser". Strange seeing as how I'm running Win 7 Ultimate 64bit OS. Also when I tried to install IE 9 32bit I'm told "It's not compatable":shock:

My solution was to download an install AU_AMD64_WIN7 from Yahoo. Unlikely as the title seems, it was an IE 9 32 bit install now everything works fine.

I'm just hoping that this might help some of the other people who are complaining about this problem. In any event MS should look into why IE 9 64bit can't be the default browser on a WIN 7 64 bit system. Dont you think?

This was by design, as there was no x64 flash, activex did not work, etc.

A: This was an explicit choice made by the IE team, which may change at some point in the future. The problem is that users might inadvertently get "stuck" using the 64bit version and not realize it. This might cause some problems.

IE 32 bit was also on your system from the start. Both versions are installed. You can use the x64 version, it just cannot be set as default. A Guy

Sorry I forgot to mention that I uninstalled the 32bit IE9 because I didn't think I needed it. It was when I tried to reinstall it that I could use the x86 version that I had downloaded.

Thanks for your reply, but I wonder why none of the Techs on the other forums never mentioned this? They all came up with checking the default settings even though a lot of the complainees were saying that they had already done this. (Not the Techs on this Forum)

Sorry I forgot to mention that I removed the 32bit IE9 because I didn't think that I needed it. It's strange that not one other Tech (Not this Forum) Came up with the solution all they did was keep on about 'Program Default' settings, despite the complainees saying that they had already tried that.

I'm sure I have seen posts by people who claim to have made IEx64 default through some method or other. But it is never really default, just rigged to run that way. Semantics perhaps, but true. A Guy
