I am using Win 7 Ultimate edition at my office. For the last two days, I have not been able to open Windows Live Mail. Every time I try to open it, an installer window open dipslying the message "Please wait while Windows Configures Windows Live Mail". After a few seconds the installer widows disappears without anything happening.

I have tried a number of solutions including clean uninstall / reinstall, changing permissions for "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\WLMail.Url.Mailto" but nothing has worked so
far.

The logs from the event viewer show two problems. These are as follows:
  • Detection of product '{6412CECE-8172-4BE5-935B-6CECACD2CA87}', feature 'WinMailFeat', component '{2C57E711-D78F-4008-9502-CC4DB2832354}' failed. The resource 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.eml\PersistentHandler\' does not exist.
  • Detection of product '{6412CECE-8172-4BE5-935B-6CECACD2CA87}', feature 'WinMailFeat' failed during request for component '{5B7A884B-05AC-4645-8CC6-FFA1063BE62F}'

    This is followed by:
Beginning a Windows Installer transaction: {6412CECE-8172-4BE5-935B-6CECACD2CA87}. Client Process Id: 5676.
    Starting session 0 - ‎2010‎-‎09‎-‎08T08:47:35.662704200Z.

The description for Event ID 20 from source Google Update cannot be found.

Product: Windows Live Mail -- Configuration completed successfully.

Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name: Windows Live Mail. Product Version: 14.0.8117.0416. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Reconfiguration success or error status: 0.
Ending a Windows Installer transaction: {6412CECE-8172-4BE5-935B-6CECACD2CA87}. Client Process Id: 5676.
    Ending session 0 started ‎2010‎-‎09‎-‎08T08:47:35.662704200Z.

    Kindly help me out.

If it were my problem I'd seriously consider doing a clean install of Windows 7: http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/clean_install_upgrade_media.asp . It might also be a good idea to run Spinrite (www.grc.com) on the drive first to make sure it's in good shape to get a new install of the OS.

Edit: Yes do the clean boot first to see if the WLM install problem goes away. In msconfig, disable all Startup tab items and all Services Tab items left after checking "hide all Microsoft Services".
