Windows Live Messenger 2011 displaying Sound Options in Korean?

Hi,

I have an unusual, if not pretty, "problem." My laptop is a Samsung (and therefore South Korean) and although Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit being in English, if I try to edit my WLM sounds all I see is presumably Korean symbols rather than English words to name the sounds.

Not really a problem as such just intriguing...

Latest version of WLM (build 15.4.3538.513) btw. Every other aspect of the programme, and indeed the computer, is in English.

The latest version of WLM is 15.4.3555.308 like mine


Try to download this version and post back if the korean is persistant.

Curious... While installing the latest Windows Live Essentials from the MS site, I noticed that it was installing in multiple languages (all of them I think!). Which reminds me, in "Add/Remove Programmes" (or whatever it is called now) Windows Live Mesh is also installed in multiple languages...?

Humph! Didn't work... (I couldn't update messenger)

Update: I disabled my AV and Firewall software, to no avail, but after a reboot, the update succeeded?

Anyway, thank you again but that hasn't fixed it. I suspect the actaull sound files were installed by Samsung and are sitting somewhere on the HD with Korean Filenames... Athough the default sounds are in Korean as well...

Try to read & download WLE from this site:

Or this one cause you have a speed internet connection:

Then try to reinstall.

Hi,

Since updating to the latest version (aff all Windows Live apps) using the main Windows Live website, i now frequently get a "Windows Live Update Available" in my status tray at least every day...? If I Decline, it just stays in the tray and if I Accept, it seems to update, says all done ("Done! Windows Live Essentials is installed. To start using Windows Live Essentials, click close.") but then it will come back later on, sometimes on the same day!

If you uninstall WLE complitelyfrom you pc as described in this site:

How do I uninstall one or more Essentials programs? - How To Uninstall

Reboot and reinstall again.
Maybe that will correct all?

Thank you, but as ever, nothing is straight forward! Grrrr.... I went to Programmes and Features, clicked on Windows Live Essentials, Uninstall and selected everything (inc. messenger) it seemed to work, took a while and asked to Restart.

Upon re-booting, guess what! Messenger started up! ROFL!

Mess was uninstalled, as was everything else, but not messenger, in any way! Went back to P&F and not only was WLE still there but also all the language versions of Mesh... I manually uninstalled all (20 odd) of these and tried to uninstall WLE again, but it just imeadiatly says Done! Lies....

Getting p**** off now! Arggh (lol)

Further:

I also tried going directly into the programx86 folder as mentioned in your link but that has the same effect. Also, as you can see from the above snapshots (excellent feature btw but I wander if MS just included that to enable users to report on problems with Win7?) when i uninstalled the various language version of the Live Mesh Active X they changed the language in the uninstall message box! WTF!
