Windows live messenger

No matter what I try in messenger all my contacts show off line and I am not able to send messages even though I know they are online.

Which version and build of Messenger? Have you tried testing your connection (tools/options/connections).

I checked the connections and it tells me i am connected to messenger and to the internet. I have version 2011 build 15.4.3555.308
