Windows Live Security software

A friend just called me and said he got some security software from Windows Live.
It was working yesterday .. But today, It won’t take his password.
He couldn’t tell me what it was … He just thought he needed it

I have an Acronis Image of his computer and can put it back to the way it was when it last left my house a couple months ago.
He’ll be here in about an hour

Anyone have an Idea of what he installed ???
And can I remove whatever he installed ??

The latter looks like it could require a Password.
He's really stumped why it worked yesterday .. And not today.
He was wondering if there's a way to get the password .. Does Windows Live have it ??
I know .. You're not Allowed to answer that.

I don't think he has kids to worry about .. Unless I can find a quick fix ...
I'll let Acronis remove it.

Actually I changed my post before you posted and removed the first. I agree its the second one. Passwords are hard to find. YOu can just do a simple system restore. Why fool with an OS that is working fine.

OK .. Great .. I'll try a system restore.
I told him to try to boot to safe mode .. Not sure if it can be done.

Never done a System restore in W7 before ... I'll look around
I know his W7 Upgrade DVD can do a repair .. and I have a W7 Repair CD.
He just called again .. He'll be here in about 10 minutes.

You have the image, so no problem, but this will let you boot to the repair options

I have a W7 Repair CD ... That was going to be my second try to see if it would get to restore.

Luckily you made a System Image backup, so you know this will get fixed.

GRRRR ... No boot ... major boot failure .. And it's a 32bit system ..
Downloading the 32B system repair now

Download and run Belarc Advisor... it will extract and display all of the keys used on your system..

Two passes with the Repair CD ...
One to get it to boot .. The other to restore it to before he installed WLFS.

Someone told him he needed to install Acronis Backup and Security ..
Then, apparently Acronis told him he wasn't protected .. So he installed WLFS.

SO, I removed Acronis Backup and Security ... Fixed/Removed the secure zone.
After some more cleanup, a new Acronis Image and it's on it's way back home.

My payment will be some Dark Chocolates from Germany due to arrive soon.
The kind where you don't eat then try to operate a computer or a vehicle.
