Windows locks up and seconds later, so does mouse.

I'm having a problem every other day and the best I can describe it is this:

I'll be using my computer like normal and all of a sudden all my windows will become unresponsive (not like the "This window is not responding" circle, I'm talking nothing is clickable) and then a few seconds later my mouse will stop and it seems that nothing will respond for about 30 seconds.....then she pulls out of it and continues whatever it was doing before.

I don't see anything crazy in the event logs. One time I have received a message that said the video driver just failed and was recovered (or something to that effect), but most of the time the problem occurs whenever windows feels like it.

If it is a freeze there should be a mention in event viewer. In what sections are you looking and what are you looking for?


There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Event viewer (local) and look for the critical errors listed in the last day, week, etc. Then go to the windows log>application tab. Finally the windows Logs>system tabs.

You want to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

Can't find anything related. A few logs for Kernel-Power, but no Critical Errors around the time the freeze up happened. The only other thing I could think of is the dock. The problems seem to be (haven't fully concluded) happening when I'm connected to my dock...which is connected to a few other usb items. The last time the lockup occurred, I undocked my laptop, but the lockup persisted for its usual amount of time.

My pleasure. If you are connected to more than 2-3 unpowered USB devices that could be the cause.
