What I've been searching for is a way to get them back.
Any help on this is welcome as the seacrh has been going badly for seveal months!

I have been through several attempts, but with no results to show.
At first this wasn't as important as just getting to know Win7, but now I am trying to do things that couls really use this feature.

Welcome to Seven Forums cimofj2. Do the various keys work individually? Does the window key by itself bring up the start menu? Does the down arrow scroll down? Etc.

If they work individually, on laptops, sometimes pressing the fn key or the F7 key can disable/enable certain functions. I would try pressing the fn key and see if that restores the functions. A Guy

Thanks for the quick reply!
As far as I can tell, these are the ONLY combinations which have quit working.
All other combination seem to still be working.

I tried the F7 & fn keys, but all I seem to get is something about Caret Browsing in IE9.

Any other suggestions?

Mmm tasty carets.

You could use a keyboard mapper to examine if Windows has 'forgotten' what these button combinations are supposed to do. You can even assign new combinations to keys including crossing hot- and media-keys with normal keys.
For example I once used Sharp Keys to change F11 and F12 to Previous Track and Next Track, functioning as media keys so that when I was playing a game, I could easily switch tracks in a playlist irrelevant of which game I was playing or which program I was using to play music.
