Windows Mail problem

I have read the Windows Mail tutorial but I have a problem.

I have used Take Ownership and removed Windows Live Mail 64 and installed Windows Mail 64 as per tutorial.

I have the shortcut on the desktop but when I try to open from there it says:-
Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Mail message store. Windows Mail was unable to locate its message database. If you’ve moved the database files to a new location, click okay to reset the database to that location.
I clicked okay and I now click on the hidden folder Widows Mail hoping that will do the trick, it doesn’t!
The next error message I get is:-
Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Mail message store.
The last error message I get is:-
Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialised.

Any ideas please?

I haven't read the tutorial but I didn't think Windows Mail could be run in Windows 7 and as it doesn't come with an email program installed if you download it will be Windows Live Mail, that is if you don't go with one of the many others out there.

Can I ask why you can't use Windows Live Mail ?

Welcome to SevenForums. Did you use the windows mail folder in program files x86. If not try to do the tutorial using them. Windows seven has program files and program files x86. I think the ones you take ownership and delete then replace with your x64 vista files are located in the x86 files. Been a year since I did this so I might be wrong. Good luck to you with this problem. I have since moved on to Windows live mail and I prefer it.

Windows live mail is great, except for the pale color. I had Outlook Express, Windows Mail and WLM, now. You might want to give it a try. It is easy to transfer mail, etc to WLM from WM.

It stated it was not running, so I ran the SFC as directed and it knocked Windows Mail for a loop. It won't start any more and gives the dreaded message "Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Mail message store. Windows Mail was unable to locate its message database. If you’ve moved the database files to a new location, click okay to reset the database to that location." I ran the post SFC file that came with the tutor package, but that didn't fix it and I still get the same message. I also ran the ownership program and that didn't fix it.
How do I fix this thing?
And a big thank you to all who try and/or help to solve this issue!

Hi Ron, actually you're posting in the wrong spot, you need to go back to the 'tutorial' area for WindowsMail issues.
I just posted there myself because of sfc. If you'll read endeavor's post that I just referred to in mine, it may help you.

Uninstall what you have and install the most current Windows Mail

Grits- thanks for the heads up on the wrong spot. Richc- I'm not sure how to install the "latest version" of Windows Mail. I'll check in the Tutor area and see if someone has a fix for the SFC disaster. Thanks all.

Windows Essentials: Other Programs
Download Windows Essentials and when given the chocice select windows mail
Start with a system restore point.
