Windows Mail

I have windows mail on my 7 OS from when I had vista. I wanted to see if there was a way to acquire the ip from an e-mails you receive.

I have gotten a fishy e-mail from craigslist I wanna check. I know it tells you on gmail and such but can you find it on Windows Mail?

I use the dutch language, so some names might be different, but if you rightclick on the mail header (I think that's what you call it) and go to properties an then click on details you should be able to see the ip address the mail came from.

I did this a long time ago but don't remember which is the ip address. After highlighting the e-mail, going to properties, then details, and message source it shows all the domains and such. But it has 3-4 "Received: by"

Not sure which is his ip address specifically.

Ok cool, got it. It's based out of San Jose California and I'm in Oregon...so much for that.

I think it should be the last one on the list before you see the actual message.

For instance: first one : your mail server
Second one: mail server sender
Last one : sender

Everything I was originally inquiring about has been answered but since I made the thread, is there anyway to cover your e-mail address while still being able to receive incoming mail without giving them your direct address?

On the first page of the account settings for the account you plan to use for sending mail, you can fill in a fake email address. When you send the mail make sure the drop down list for the from field shows the fake address. Although your real email address (the one with the "@" sign) will be replaced with the fake address, there are other fields (w/o the "@") that could give it away to someone who checked the properties. E.g. X-Authenticated User = realname.realisp.net where the real address is [email protected].
