when playing videos using media player my cpu usage is using 6-10 % when watching video but should be at zero% .i normally use vlc but the picture quality is slightly pixalated what is annoying .when using that and other video players cpu usage is zero ,why is this using such high cpu usage ..ive tried various players but they dont do what i want them too such as simple things like aero snap or double click to maximize..
any suggestions why such high cpu usage or good alternatives?

IF you have a HUGE library then it could just be cuz its constantly trying to update and go online to find ID tags and whatnot through all your live folders. Try telling it to not do this and see what happens.
Also are ya using 3rd party media codecs?

That's a tough one considering your specs are fine and i know k-lite shouldn't conflict with anything. i assume you got all drivers and everything up to date and video drivers from the source and not through update. i doubt you are watchin blue ray, right lol. I got a quad and 4gb RAM and it stays from 0%-1%. Its not updating library also you say. I'm still tryin to find out for ya ;)

If you have a USB stick in your machine, disable "Windows Driver Foundation" in Services and see whether that helps. I have noticed some wacky sync attempts from WMP to USB sticks that can only be cured by disabling said service.
As a quick test you can unplug the USB stick(s).

I've been fighting this problem for a couple weeks plus now.

I've just about gave up. I can find no solution yet

MEdia player just goes ape**** sometimes and eats 50 to 80 percent CPU

This is on a dual core E8500 with 4 gigs RAM.

I try to kill the process with task manager but it keep coming back and goes
insane.

One fix that seems to work is to remove the application entirely and then
'reinstall' it.

Yes, I have tens of thousands of JPGS and in another set of directories 100's or maybe even thousands avi and mpgs.
I've yet to be able to determine if the idiot WMP is trying to 'index ' at random or not.
I"ve tried the 'fixes' I"ve found so far about disabling some services but that is not working either. Parital fix at best.

I'd not use Windows Media at all other than the fact I use it to watch TV with
my Hauppage TV tuner. (By the way it is the Tuner that does the processing
and impacts the system hardly at all. IT is not a simple 'stick' tuner)

I use VLC for normal vid watching. Always have.

MS is run by fools. WIndows 7 is fine but this WMP and the Media Center is a total piece of crap if it trashes system performance. Why they released this trash is mind
boggling. Google searches reveal a host of folk looking for a solution to the same common problem description.
Where are the real fixes?

I'll keep looking on these forums for an answer but so far all the experienced
'super techs' have yet to provide a real solution.

I keep my fingers crossed.
