Windows Media Player Security Update

I am using Overdive Media Console, attempting to run Windows Security Update on Windows Media Player. I am running Windows 7X64 and have WMP12.

From what I've seen on the web, I am certainly not the first person to run into problems here. Yet any of the "fixes" I have found do not work for me.

When I open Overdrive, it tells me I need the security update for WMP. It also says that my version of security is 2.9.0.1, and to click here to update. When I do this, nothing happens. Absolutely nothing. I have used the Microsoft web link for the update;it tells me it is updating, then that the update has been successful. Yet when I go back to the Media Console, same message about update needed.

I have tried this in the "normal" mode, have also tried it as "administrator", both in Overdrive and also in IE. I have also gone to C: ProgramData/Microsoft/DRM and changed the name of the DRM file.( I do note that my DRM file is empty, so I can't imagine what magic this would work anyway.) I have modified Windows Firewall to allow Overdrive and all instances of WMP. I have disabled my adblocker. I have run sfc/ scannow with no problems found. I have emptied my internet cache.

All of this to no avail. And it's driving me nuts!
All I want to do is download a WMA file from my Public Library.

I would appreciate any help you might offer.

upgrade media player to 2.5.0.1

The suggestion I got did nothing. My OverDrive Media Consol would not update by click file and then upgrade. So, I went on the internet in search of a 2.5.0.1 upgrade. No such creature.

The website Security component upgrade was given to me to update my software. But the button was shadowed and I was unable to click on it to download. Well I finally found answer.
Go back to the Security component upgrade page. Look at the toolbar and you will see a "broken or torn page" icon. Click on the broken page icon on the tool bar and the “upgrade” button will appear. Now you can upgrade!

This is using moxilla foxfire, but I would assume all browsers have something similar. If not, I would suggest you download moxilla and just use it to fix this problem. Moxlilla Foxfire download site is: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/

Hi. What browser is this in? Because this is pretty much my EXACT problem, but I'm using Chrome with Win 7 64bit. I'm trying to activate a digital download of a movie in my Windows Media Center. Keep getting the 'you must update your security, go to this website' message. Go to the website for the Security component upgrade and it's shadowed and I can't figure out how to get the upgrade button appear so that I can complete the upgrade. When I go to the Microsoft website to do an upgrade through there, I download the file, but when I go to run it, I keep getting an error message that says "Setup could not find the update.inf file needed to update your system." and EVERY fix that I've tried for that has failed. Please help?

If you use IE9 I found that I had to go into IE's Tools --> Internet Options --> Security. Near the bottom of the pane is a check box that says Enable Protected Mode. Uncheck that box It works. Not sure about chrome though

Thanks Danny. I've still got IE on here, so I used that and switched it. Thank you. Looks like it should work just fine now.

Hi, this is using Moxilla Foxfire.. if google chrome does not update for you, then i suggest you download and install Moxilla Foxfire just to fix the update issue..Sorry I did not think about the different browsers issue..... download it from here, Mozilla Firefox Web Browser then follow the instructions, go back to that windows site Security component upgrade where the button is shadowed and click the broken / torn paper icon in the toolbar and it will unshadow the button!

Same Problems...

I am running an updated copy of Firefox, but I'm still having this issue.
What torn page icon are you talking about? I've turned on all the toolbars, but I am not seeing it.

I have also tried Chrome and IE (with protected mode disabled).

Any advice would be appreciated. It's amazing how difficult something as simple as trying to download audiobooks can be!
