I have removed WMP because of a problem that would not go away after trying to send an audio file by email. The message read: Windows Media Player has encountered a problem while downloading a file.

Then all any links on desktop went belly up and were unusable. When I tried to open a desktop link the above error message appeared. I rebooted but that didn't help, my Uninstaller program link failed as all the others did. WMP's not listed in Programs & Features. Any way I now want to reinstall WMP using Windows 7 64-bit. The ones I found on the net, were not applicable to the program I'm running. When I went back to Turn off Windows features and reclicked WMP the problem with my links appeared again. As a last resort I went into the registry and removed everything I found for the player.

Now I want to install it again but I can't find the proper download site. Will some give me a good link that will work with my OS?

Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum,

Windows Media Player 10

This one should work

I thank you for the link, but instead of the player I received this message:
This version of WMP can only be installed on a computer running Windows XP (320bit).

Can you think of something else to try?

Dutchess, Please no crying face, I will try to help you.

OK I think that I have found a version good for you, but in beta, so make a system restrore point before trying.

Now, if I give it to you we have an understanding if it works you give me a happy face.

Hmmm.. How confident are you using regedit, the system registry tool? You say you have removed wmp. However, it sounds like there are still registry entries that did not get removed. I would do:

1) Backup your system registry (done after starting regedit)
2) search for: Windows media player. Delete all entries you find.
3) download, install and run ccleaner. Run it for both files and system registry.
4) Then go to this site to download WMP: Windows Media Player: Enjoy everywhere

My heartfelt thanks to all who responded. I won't have to do anything that was offered, I used system restore and I now have the player up and running again with no more error messages. :D
