For a month now i have been having problems with Windows update not working. I have been getting error 80080005 after a lot of searching i think the problem is that something (Avast or Advanced System Care ?) has deleted a file in the windows registry and Windows Modular Installer is no longer working.

If i try restarting it i get an error 126 I have tried a number of solutions including adding a new registry key but nothing has worked. Now to add to the fun windows will not let me install a new printer driver. I am thinking now of doing a fresh install of Windows but before i do a couple of questions.

Any new suggestion on getting Windows Modular Installer working again. Windows works fine otherwise

I have 2 HDDs and i have Windows on one HDD whats the best way to do a fresh reinstall windows

Hi there ... Your System is completely messed up You could try a Restore point before things went pear shape .. But my guess is you do not have any ..So first thing to do is to Uninstall Advanced System Care as i am sure it has a lot to do with your problems ... Then you might try a Repair and Install ...

I did try the repair install. But a soon as i start it windows starts to check for updates but never gets past the looking for update screen. As windows update is broken

There does not seem to be a way to stop it looking for updates

I also then would suggest a full clean install. Back up all your personal data to some external device first.
