Windows not finding Updates

I had FileHipo on my previous machine but it would not work on this one for some reason.
It installed fine, when I clicked on the icon to run a check, it did nothing, would not pop-up, just disappear.
Anyone else encounter this ?

FileHippo has a standalone version that doesn't get installed you could try.
The installed version does need Net Framework 2.0.

I've been meaning to ask this for awhile now but keep forgetting until it's too late. I have several updates hidden & wonder if they should be unhidden & installed before I do any new ones? I hide them because I wasn't sure I really needed them.

If it was my computer I would not install the video card update if I didn't have any problems with the video card.
You could also go to Nvidia website and find out what the update does and decide from there if you want it.
I install all Microsoft Windows 7 recommended updates.
Important and optional and most recommended.
Any thing concerning a 3rd party (Nvidia) I investigate first.

Thanks LB, Yes, I've understood from readings here at forum that driver stuff is best not done from MS but I guess my main concern is "should I install my hidden ones 'before' I do any current ones? I'm also concerned about the connection between the two KB's shown in my attachment (838 & 140), one is 'optional', one is 'recommended'?
Sorry to bug you but I'm sooo computer illiterate that when I try to read & understand this stuff it almost brings me to tears.

I would install those hidden KB's with no third part updates because they are the oldest.
Then I would run Windows Updates a least 2 times and install need updates.
I don't know how one would read everything about every KB. By the time you got through all that reading it would be time for next months updates. One has to put some trust in Microsoft's ability to update their operating system.
Microsoft does make a mistake every now and then but not often.

When you see a update for a 3rd party driver(ie. Nvidia) is just Microsoft informing you that a Nvidia has a new driver availably.
Microsoft is not telling you to install it. That choice is left up to you.
Just because a new driver is availably does not mean it is a good choice. New is not always better. If I'm not having problems I don't update the driver. If I'm having problems with (ie. Nvidia) I will research the update driver and see if it address the problem I'm having.

Thanx again LB. I probably misunderstood either the 838 or 140, it seems like I was thinking it was more for 'developers' or something to that effect & I'm not even a 'good simple user'. I don't even know IF I'd know whether I had a problem with whatever Nvidia does.

Nvidia is your Video card. It is what produces the picture (video) on your screen. If you had a problem you would notice it.
Just Google Nvidia video and your will get all kinds of information.
