windows not genuine

I have had this copy of w7hp for 2 years now. I bought from a vendor. Now I get an message telling me it is not valid. If I click all the links to try and resolve it I get to a point where I must update to w10. I'm calling this BS. Why did it install and validate fine had they said something at the time of the install I could have done something about it now I can’t even remember where I got it.

I sent the vendor an email to see if he can help. What I don't understand is how up until now I have been good. If it was not genuine why did it say that it was and only now because I guess of some update it no longer is. As for as I'm concerned if the vendor did sell me a counterfeit copy and he mailed it USPS it is now mail fraud I want to see MS go after him!!! But No MS sell the bulk copies and they are resold and only much later does an issue come up. Everybody makes money and only the end-user pays the price. I call it what it BS.

I'm trying the restore I only had 3 restore points not sure what happens to the earlier ones. If that doesn't work I can restore off an image backup and be careful on future WU.

In another thought. I only use this computer for recording and editing audio. It is almost never connected to the internet and I hate windows updates anyhow. If my software runs who cares so what if I have a black back ground.

Do you have a north America phone number? I can't get anything but the online option and that is a dead end. So far no response from MS. I can't even tell if my attempt even went through.

I googled it and found a work around. It looks like this is a big issue affecting many people. One link showed me how to turn off the error message and made mention to not have your updates on automatic.

Me I have a problem with this. One I can’t get a hold of MS to find out what actually is going on. IF I was sold a counterfeitcopy I want to see some prosecution as I feel like a victim. Why did it take 9 months for me to be made aware that of the problem I could have objected and returned and gotten a possible refund but now that is impossible?

What I think happened is MS sold all these copies of W7 to vendors perhaps meant for built PCs with OS preinstalled. Now MS has a way of flagging these to force people to buy W10.

I may be overly conspiratorially but that has become my nature.
