When I installed Win 7 for the second time on a second hard drive, I see a very large folder called Windows Old. I have a multiboot setup with Win XP Pro. Vista and Ubuntu on HD1 and Win7 on HD0. The thing is, there seem to be folders in the Windows-Old folder that are also in my Win XP partition, which also shows up in Win7, along with all my other partitions. So, if I delete Windows-Old folder, will this also delete my XP ? I don't know if this would be safe !

Thanks

At some point you did an install into a partition that already had a windows OS. Thats what is in windows.old. To verify for yourself, pick a folder that exists in XP and windows.old and look at the modified date and time. If you dont need whatever is in the windows.old it can be deleted. To make absolutly certain, backup that folder to another drive in case.

Hello Errolgreer,

As Ken posted, the Windows.old folder is the backup of the previous Windows installation that you installed your current Windows 7 on top of. Yes, you can delete this folder using the method below if it does not contain any files that you want to keep.

Hope this helps,

Remember too that windows.old most likely will contain your old emails and docs and pics folders if you hadnt relocated them.
