Hi,

I had this problem once before and I managed to solve it but I dont remember how. I think its related to my video card drivers. In normal mode I cant get past the black screen with the colored windows logo. It gets stuck there, then I hear a weird sound coming from my computer and the screen goes away with my monitor telling me there is no signal coming in despite my computer is still turned on. So I tried in safe mode and turns on normally. The last thing I did before this issue was to update iTunes but I dont really think its related. How can I fix it? My video card is nVidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti.

Thank you in advance.

Does your motherboard have built-in video too? Maybe you need to check the BIOS settings and see if it is setup to boot into on-board video first, then PCIe second.

Did you try "Last Known Good Configuration" in F8 menu (same screen where you chose Safe Mode)?

Right now i cant check since im trying to restore to a checkpoint but I dont think thats the cause because I havent touched the bios at all so all the settings should be as usual.

EDIT: Yes, I am trying that right now but to be honest I dont think it works because I have it tried so many times in the past and I always get an error saying it was not possible. So far I tried with 2 different checkpoints none of the worked.

The symptom guides to this direction. One basic difference between normal mode and safe mode is that safe mode use the generic display only. So a failing driver is the first possibility here.

Uninstall the installed display driver using Display Driver Uninstaller. Then install another driver version and see if it does any change there or not. Try at least 3 driver versions, namely ...

If it remains the same irrespective of the display driver version, then we will need to rule out the second possibility that the issue is caused by graphics card itself. As we will not be able to stress test the graphics card in this situation, remove the graphics card, borrow one from friends or family and apply it there and see how it goes.

Let us know the situation after doing upto this stage. Further troubleshooting might be needed depending on the situation.

By the way, it seems to be a branded desktop PC. So two other information will be very vital here.

Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not. Also let us know the wattage of the installed PSU.

Hi again,

I let it off all night long and part of the day. Now it started up normally. Seems like it was already too hot or something. It may happen again so I will keep you updated.

Thank you very much for your help guys.

Sorry to disturb you again guys, but my problem is back. It worked fine yesterday all along ever since I made my last post but after I turned it off I cant get it back on now. Its making that weird sound again right at the windows logo. I have 2 monitors so I tried by disconnecting the secondary one and still no success. The computer is supposed to be cool since It was off for several hours now. What else could be causing this?

Thank you.

It may be your PSU or GPU at first sight. The sound is not a good sign I believe.

Try loading defaults in BIOS.
Remove power cord. Open the case and check if the power connectors are tight in place. Pull the card out, and reseat it.

It is not obvious from your earlier posts, did you try the Last Known Good Configuration option in Advanced Boot Options (F8)?

Okay, now I opened it up and deep cleaned everything inside very carefully. I turned it on again and it was still useless but after some kicking and beating I made it work again. I dont know for how long though...

By the way, please just help me get this straight. This is more of less how the computer rear looks.

http://cdn3.volusion.com/hwncl.zxchj/v/vspfiles/photos/GD0004TG-4.jpg?1352811649

I dont remember exactly how I had it before turning everything upside down but right now I have a HDMI cable going to my main monitor whereas my second monitor is connected with a DVI cable to the second DVI slot (so the first DVI slot is empty now). Is it correct to have it like this? Before all this madness all I remember for sure is that my secondary monitor was connected to the FIRST DVI slot and that my first monitor was probably connected to the second one (I dont know why). However, I dont remember whether I had the HDMI cable connected too.

It seems to work perfectly the way it is now but I am not sure whether it is the right way to do it.

Thank you.

Yes, my bios has all default values. I tried the calculator thing but I dont quite understand it. The Speccy thing seems to need installation which I dont think it is a good idea right now with all the problems I am having. I need to rule out every possibility such as recently installed drivers and programs.

I would appreciate an answer to my question abov though. I think that could lead to the solution.

Thank you.

Speccy is used for troubleshooting.

Anyway, as you dont want to follow the instructions, I cannot do anything here.

I'm unsubscribing.

I only deep cleaned it from inside. All the pins and slots. Then I turned it on but it didnt come back right away. I had to beat it and kick it a little bit, turn it off and on again. After all that I finally got it to work.

Anyway, It had worked alright the whole week but today (monday) its not turning on again. Seems like it hates mondays just like Garfield and myself. The only theory I have about this is that I keep it on the whole weekend from friday all the way to monday. So maybe its tired of being on for over 3 days on a row and needs some rest. I am considering buying a new grahic card.
