windows operating system support????

hey sorry if it is in the wrong place but earlier today (arround 9am) my mum got a call from 'windows operating system support' im guessing it was bullshit cos of the japanese person on the end barely able to speak english.

just wandering if anyone else has had this scam yet and to let you guys know about it

The only way Microsoft would contact you is if you contacted them first, and then there are protocols:

Not sure how young your mum is, mine's 86, and one needs to impress upon them the dangers out there.

The smallest thing can cause a slip. For them, and us too.

It appears to be a pretty frequent scam. I myself have had two calls, both of which ended up with the caller slamming the phone down on me! I guess they was not impressed with my questions. My wife also had one while I was at work a couple of days back and 2 other family members have contacted me to say that they had had similar calls too. Seems to be a bit of a hot spot for them here.

I'm glad you had the knowledge to realise it was an attempted scam. It makes my blood boil to think that they are conning innocent unaware people in this way.

Just today I had a call on the Land-line about smoke alarms and fire extinguishers, as I take care of all that myself I knew my fire protection was above code.

I told him I did not want to participate, goodbye, and reset the receiver.
There was no callback.
