Solved Windows optional updates

I suspect this will have been asked before but is there a way to actually delete Win 7 optional updates e.g. for IE9 or anything else for that matter that you do not use.
OK, you can un-tick the box and don't install the update but when you reboot the reminder to update pops back up again and the box is ticked asking you to do the same update that you don't need - most annoying !!!

Ah, I've just seen a reply from Brink to another poster about how to set your Windows Update settings so that it does not automatically try to update so I guess that will answer my question, thanks Brink.
