Windows Photo Viewer Crashes when moved to another monitor

I have encountered a strange problem today: when I want to see an image with the Windows Photo Viewer - which is the default application for this purpose - it opens on the secondary monitor. It works fine while there, but any attempt to move the window to the primary monitor results in a crash with the message "COM Surrogate has stopped working". Here are the problem details from that error message:

There is an option to check online for the solution to the problem but it doe snot produce anything.

Taking a stab in the dark here, but what is the resolution of your primary monitor? I had a similar problem with WinDVD -- it would crash whenever I opened it up to my main desktop (4320x900, Eyefinity). A call to customer support revealed that the application cannot open on a display greater than 1920X1080. So, whenever I want to view a Blu-Ray disc, I have to disable Eyefinity.

See if Photo Viewer has a limitation on the display size the application can be opened in.

Well, the resolution of the main monitor is 1920x1080 and in fact until yesterday everything worked just fine, I could move the Photo Viewer between the two monitors without any problems.

Well, after researching a lot on Google and finding more threads on the Forums about the same thing, I managed to do something nobody suggested and my problem seems to have gone away. I mean, I do not believe this has anything to do with Nero or other apps as many forums suggest, since everything worked just fine until recently. I did uninstall one piece of software I downloaded recently (AVS video converter), but this did not do anything, I booted into the safe mode, but then it turned out Photo Viewer does not work in the safe mode anyways.

So, to make the story short, I simply went ahead and disabled the second monitor, forcing everything to appear on the main one. Here the Photo Viewer worked fine. I then re-enabled the second monitor and voila, I can move the Photo Viewer window between monitors again without any problem.

I wish I knew what the actual problem was though ...

It sounds as if the main one is acting like a base station with the secondary as a sub station, therefore the base must be activated first to be able to feed the sub station.

Does that make sense.?
