Hi Ace and welcome to the Forum. A bit more detail please. What version of Windows 7 do you have and what program are you using to view your photos? What do you expect to happen when you press F11?

thank you mitchell for giving attention to my problem.
i have bought new laptop and spent most of the time in knowing about it.
i have windows 7 home premium. i m trying to open photos in windows photo viewer.
actually when i open any photo of a folder containing photos then it opens as usual, there is no problem there but the main problem arises when i press f11 or try to see those photos in slide show.
the photos in slide show opens in a random fashion rather i expect it to be in the same sequence as it is arranged (as by name generally).
explaining it more clearly if three photos are named as a, b, c, and are arranged by name then i expect when i start slide show then it should go in sequence from a then b followed by c but it happens in a random fashion.

I have checked out this and can only find the following from Microsoft. It does not appear you can edit the preferences at all:
Windows Photo Viewer only has the basic functions to view and edit pictures. There is no setting to change how Windows Photo Viewer opens a picture. This is by design.
Instead use Windows Explorer Preview feature to check the pictures.
To do this, please open Windows Explorer -> click Organize, Layout, Preview pane to enable Preview Pane. Highlight the picture you would like to view and it will display a preview image on the right side of the window.

If the preview picture will not display on the Preview Pane, please click Organize -> Folder and search options -> View tab -> uncheck "Always show icons, never thumbnails" -> click OK.

You can also view pictures in Media Center.

I think you are stuck with it as it is althought here is a limited choice if you right click whilst in slideshow. Random, loop etc.!

Sorry my post above should have read "shuffle" and I typed "Random" :o
I suppose in this context they both mean the same but you are perfectly correct Lomai, it should be "Shuffle"

First please appreciate that Windows 7 is a new concept in the world of OS. I don't know but I guess that the powers that be considered it was better to upgrade the old Paint program to what is now a fairly comprehensive photo editing program and make it easy to open Paint from within the Windows Photo Viewer. It is a Photo Viewer and doesn't pretend to be an editor. If in Photo Viewer you click "Open" in the top bar you have a choice . Click on Paint and your selected photo will open in that program. You will probably find all the editing facilities you need.
Sure Windows 7 doesn't perform the same as XP but then it's not supposed to. I daresay when Windows 10 comes out we will be asking why it doesn't work the same as Win7.

Thanks mate - my gripe was in Vista it had the ability to crop and reduce red eye etc. They upgrade the OS and go backwards with the Photo Viewer:shock: I know it's in Windows Live and all that jazz but i'm not into any of that stuff. I was recommended in another thread Fastone Image Viewer and it is perfect. Thanks
