Windows recognizing multi core processor

I have a quad core processor and I want to know how to have Win7 recognize the quad core. I've done it before but I have forgotten how. Can you help?

Not quite sure I understand what you mean.

What makes you think windows is not recognising it? Where are you looking in windows 7?

There are no steps, and nothing you've done before, aside from install Windows normally. Multi core processors are still considered single socket, which means every version of Windows 7, including Basic, will be able to see and use all four cores from the get go.

This the Gateway listed in your specs? If so unless you changed the CPU or opted for a different one, according to Gateway it only has a dual core in it,

I had a Gateway but had 4 major problems with it in 7 months of usage. Gateway was not willing to refund my purchase but only to do a fourth repair which meant that I had to send it back again and wait another couple of weeks. I chose to abandon it and purchase another computer. When I had the Gateway, I went to a location in windows and specified that I had a dual core processor. Now my processor is a quad core and I would like to repeat the steps I used previously but I cannot remember how I did it. If you know, please help.

Again, there is nothing for you to change or alter. Windows is already aware and recognizes you have a multi-core processor. There is nothing for you to do. NOTHING. What you are referring to was nothing but a myth.
