Windows refusing to run a beta driver.

I am trying running a beta version of a driver for a Nova Tuner stick but windows reports:

Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)

I know about the disable digital signature enforcement option in F8 menu but its a bit of a hassle having to reboot every time you want to use the stick. Is there a way to make windows accept this driver permanently?

Hi swarfega,

Have a look at the advanced options with EasyBCD - I think the option to not require signed drivers in 64Bit is a permanent setting

I downloaded easyBCD and ticked allow unsigned driver installation on vista 64-bit edition and hit apply and then reboot but the driver is still not working.

Does it work using the F8 option?, if not only other thing I can think of is that it is signed but either the file or the signing is corrupt, you may want to d/l the driver again, from a different source if possible

It did work with F8 option. Trouble is im pretty sure its unsigned as its beta and the moderator on the forum said they were waiting for WQHL cert in the next week or so.

I downloaded the beta version and WMC still refuses to find my tuner :/

Try this:

open an elevated command prompt and type:

bcdedit -debug on

Restart and see what happens.

To undo the above, open evelated command prompt and type:

bcdedit -debug off

Hi Swarfega,

When you say WMC doesn't see the tuner Is it showing in the Device manager?
I have heard of a few people having problems with WMC and tuners in x64, and there have been a few patches from windows update including at least one specific to Europe & UK.

Not something I actually use so can't really help with specifics but it could just be that the drivers are just not ready yet and you'll have to wait for the certified ones

yeah its not showing in device manager. I looked at adding in hardware but ms in their thoughtfulness seem to have removed have disk option in order to install the .inf file.

Is this the one you need
try hdwwiz.exe into the start bar

it's not in Control panel but still on the disk

The advanced option seen in the EasyBCD tool there simply sets the mode to allow unsigned drivers to run. That's an option to set the boot mode while you still need to see a 64bit set of drivers/software while most tuners and tuner cards are strictly 32bit.



I had enough fun trying to get the XP software despite Vista driver updates working for an addon tuner card here in the 32bit Vista and 7 environment. I guess it pays to dual boot with a 32bit edition of something.

I changed mine to be exactly like yours and its still not working. Its getting annoying that ms are so strict now.

Then you need to find 64bit drivers/software if they provide them. I almost had the tv tuner card here going on the 64bit beta whlile waiting to see that connected online. The same grey screen with sound seen on the 32bit beta was a good sign when using the troubleshoot compatibility option when right clicking on the installer's executable for that.

yea they are 64-bit drivers, trouble is they are unsigned betas. They say they have submitted them for WQHL but itl take a couple of weeks.

Whenever I see the unsigned drivers prompt I typically click the install anyways option. So far that's worked out for seeing older 98 dsl drivers work for the 32bit editions and 7. If you see anything like that giving you an option to install give it a try on the 64bit there.

Unfortunately theres no such button. ms have really tightened the screws on this one.

That's odd since when going into the add new device in 7 or any add new hardware on Vista or XP for the dsl adapter that will come up when selecting the original 98 version of the drivers. The Windows update will later show the XP update for those.

All this is still being seen on the 32bit versions however. I would think you would see that for 64bit drivers on any 64bit edition. It's simply a matter of getting 7 to accept the drivers unless since those are still beta there's a bug with them the finishet set will correct.
