Hi there,

My pc goes through stages of going straight into the repair option in startup. I have disabled many of the starup applications (as this was reccommended). Often when it happens I discover a new startup due to a download or it's just after a windows update.

Now though it's doing it every startup. I have gone through the repair option, it restarts fine until the next time it starts from cold.

Anyone else have this happen? Chap at PC World (yes, laugh at me) said I should have to do a reinstall for windows?

Hi,

If you can keep it booted, please try the following to verify and if neccessary make repairs to your system files:

1. Click Start-Orb, and in the search box type cmd
2. Right click on cmd, and then select Start as administrator
3. In the Command Prompt window type sfc /scannow

When it finishes, please post a screenshot or copy and paste the resultant text here.

Regards,
Golden

Hi Golden,

Thanks for that - really appreciate a response and will do it when I get home tonight. Had found a thread on here about disabling startup repair, but am afraid of dabbling in matters beyond my knowledge.

No problem mate - take it slow. There are many very experienced people here whose sole purpose is to help those that need it. You've come to the right place.

Start with the sfc /scannow when you get home, and we'll take it from there :)

Golden

Hi Golden,

For some reason it won't let me copy the scan (how do I highlight and copy this text??). In any case there wasn't much of it so I'll type it out:

C:\Windows\system32>sfc/scannow
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

assume that's good?

It's a case of tossing a coin. Ironically this morning it didn't, probably the first time in over a week! In case you aren't on hand in the future, assuming it did this morning what would your advice be?

I've spotted a thread on here about disabling the windows repair (which seems to be very easily activated). Would you consider that a good idea?

Hi! scamander,

Are you referring to this post?
http://www.sevenforums.com/general-...le-windows-startup-repair-default-option.html

You should be able to run all the commands given in this thread, but GR's solution in post #11 would be the best.

Are you getting and blue screens before these "Repairs"? If you are (They may flash so quickly you may not even notice them) Stopping the immediate loading of the repair function would give you time to read and understand them.

Edit:

Not sure of the terminology, but might this help?

Occasionally I got a blue screen pop up, but this was rare and very quick.

I think that's the thread in question - cheers for that. I just didn't want to go ahead of myself. I imagine this forum is littered with people who step out of their comfort zone!!

I'll give it a go tonight.

Hi,

Well thats good news. If it does happen again, try to see if you can correlate it with soemthing you are doing. For example, it always happens when you unplug a USB drive and then shutdown as a very simple example.

You get the idea.

Golden
