Windows Seven on Asus eee?

Just to add to the post above.
I am also running W7 on my 901 without any problems other than the black screen.
You can shut the lid and re open it (or as i do, just hit the power button), you can get a script running that changes the screen resolution as windows boots up but you have to have auto login enabled. There are also a few hacked bios's that get around the problem, some people are using them but i had a problem when i tired so i just put up with the black screen for now.
The only driver i needed to download was the Asus ACPI driver, everything else worked after first boot. Even WiFi.
I found that my total install space for 7201 was around 9GB, and thats with Avast loaded.
Ive put my temp folders on the old 4GB SSD.

there should be no problem with using windows 7 in a eee
as long as you have more than 1 gig then you should be fine....

as you said since you are not going to run no aero then you should be fine...

also try the get the one with the most hardrive space....
with a 16 gb you will get about half of the free disk space...

Just so everyone knows, you can install win7 on a 2 GHz single core with 128 RAM, and a 20 gig hard drive. Win7 is very efficient with older and underperforming PC's, and this trend is likely to continue down to 1.5GHz and 64mb RAM (XP's minimum requirements) The OS will automatically adjust your performance settings.

Hey you can install this on a 901 or a 904 etc. Hope you didn't buy the 1000 yet! But I sure hope this helps. These are just vLited install images, you can use a USB drive to install them (guides online if you need help).

Apparently you can install these on a EEE 4G hard drive!

Asus EEEPC 1000HE

I have taken an a refurbished 1000HE and upgraded the ram to 2gb.I have removed the factory drive and installed a seagate 320gb 7200rpm 16mb cache HD.I added the Logitech V740 blutooth mouse.I also utilized the the memory card reader slot for Ram Boost.The card used for ram boost is a sandisk 111 2gb 30mb sec sd.Installed windows 7 RTM clean .The system has been extremly responsive including using media center.The only issue I have encountered thus far is the boot time is roughly 1 min 5 sec however upon log in system speed is fantastic.I am currently working on investigating slow boot time.I may actually utilize a SD high speed drive to test boot time difference using one of these drives.I can only imagine the speed on both boot and run will improve exponentially.I realize netbooks are not made to be performance machines however I love turning them into one

I have an ASUS 1002HA with Win 7 RTM installed.

Am generally pleased. I did update to bios the latest version which cured the "auto-sleep" problem at Win 7 boot/reboot. Also located a vista driver for the elantech touchpad which enables me to disable the touchpad when a usb mouse is installed. That overly sensitive mousepad was driving me up the wall.

Still need other drivers and support sw.

I'm very interested in what drivers you manage to locate and where.

Also need support sw for the webcam so that I can use it again.

Win 7 is definitely the way to fly. Vista is dead! XP is dying! Long live the new King, Windows 7!

Running fine on my new 1000H here. Had to do some hunting for drivers and the like, but after a few hours of that, I've got it all running the way it came with XP (meaning all of the Fn keys, power modes, and whatnot work).

The better power management of seven really shows with this. With XP I was getting about 4.5 to 5 hours, now with seven I'm up to 6, 7 if I dim the screen all the way and turn wifi off.

Be sure to get the very latest bios update. This should cure your startup peculiarity.

I've put Win7 on a 1002HA which uses the same microprocessore as the 900 series.

Need the location of the drivers which you located to resolve a couple of annoyances.

I'll keep this topic going then...
I am running 7 on an Eee PC 901 at this very moment, and I have to say that it runs like a charm. I find it as fast as XP concerning the boot time, and faster when it comes to sleep mode ! Office 2007 stars really fast (outlook in only 2 seconds !!!)
I found the ACPI drivers on the web, and the integrated 3G connectivity is working perfectly.

Two major thing are to be taken into account when installing 7 on this netbook :
- The disk space issue (2 8GB SSD drives) : the installe of Windows 7 takes almost 10 Gigs, with 7GB on the 1st drive and 3 on the 2d. This means that I cannot install any of the big Office Updates, such as SP1 and SP2.

- If you have already upgraded your BIOS : on startup, the screen will be black on startup. I found after a few reboots that I just had to close the lid of the netbook and wake it up ; then I could enjoy this great OS without additional problems.

Did you ever solve your boot screen problem? If no, then I'll search my other laptop for the registry "hack" so that you can use the graphic of your choice. Haven't worried about it on this one yet.

Does Aarhus still have a 100 km Wandring every summer? Walked it several times when I was in Europe. Have also made the 300 km Schleswig-Aarhus Heeresveiwandring 5 times. Forgive the misspellings. I've been away for a few years, although hope to make the long one once again in a few years to celebrate the 75th birthday.

Been a while, but heres my report:

Of some wierd reason the computer was split up in 3 partions when i got it. 1 with 2-3 gb one with about 68 and one with 80...Wierd :s Anyway i went into xp on it (Which was pre-installed), and discovered that the one partion with 80 gigs was empty, so i just installed it from my desktop in xp to the 80 gig. partion. Installation went smooth and windows booted almost normal. The only thing about it was that i was the old vista boot screen instead of the new flashy one (Anyone knows how to fix this?). It installed the necessary drivers (even the bluetooth, which i didnt expect it would find by it self.). The only thing i had to download drivers for (drivers downloaded from asus website) was for the "super hybrid engine" and the quick launch buttons over the keyboard. But overall a succes!

Hi Karl, No i didnt solve the boot screen, but it don't matter, only use that pc when i'm in school as for the walking, i think so (But i am not sure, walking isnt quite "my thing" ) Serious? 300 Km!?:shock: that's what i walk on a year or so
