After locking my session and signing in again I find that open windows towards the right of my screen have shifted about 1cm to the left. This happens on both of my PCs.

An example would be a Sticky Note that I had parked on the right limit of the screen. Also Open Office text documents do the same.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Does the screen resolution change at all?

There's no change in the resolution, just a leftward shift! It really annoys me, but it's not a 'serious' problem. I just have to keep moving the windows back to where I want them to be! Grrrrrrrr!!

does your desktop display fully occupies the screen/monitor's viewable area or not? i take it that your desktop view is okay except windows of windows explorer and maybe others as well.

if your screen resolution is set to its recommended setting then maybe you can try checking if your display driver needs updating or not. or you could try the FN combination if it is a laptop or the monitor's buttons if it is a desktop PC, just in case you have hooked a second monitor to both PCs. it could also be a compatibility issue.

please don't bite me as I am just a self-learner by experience that only wants to help.

God Bless,

My machines are Sony Vaio notebooks (VPCF11Z1E and VPCF23Z1E).

There is no 'rim' around my desktop display, and it occupies the entire physical screen. The only thing that I observe to be not normal is the issue with left-shifting windows. And it occurs on both machines.

I have never hooked up a second monitor and I have checked in the Screen Resolution applet to see if there is another monitor 'lurking'. Nope. And the screen resolution is maximum, as recommended (1920x1080 60Hz).

Thanks for replying. Also it's making me look closer at the symptoms. I have just locked my session and signed back in only to find that the windows haven't moved this time! So it doesn't always happen.

But it does happen, and it only happens to the windows on the right hand side of the screen.

I am now on watch and I will update this posting at the next occurrence. Current hypothesis: it only happens when the screen saver locks my session automatically. We'll see!

I locked the session and after logging back in two hours later four sticky notes had moved to the left from the right hand border of the screen - but the larger they are the more they have moved!

i believe your issue is over me so i can only suggest that you try your hardware manuals/guides or relevant support sites.
