Solved Windows snap next to each other.

Hi there,

My laptop HD died so I had to buy a new one and install windows on it. I have Windows Seven Home Premium 64. Something that never happened before was that windows now snap together when I move them around with the mouse (not aero snap, which I have turned off). Windows just lock onto one another and align as soon as they are moved next to each other.

I find this feature very frustrating, how can I turn it off? I've searched google so much for this and can't find any relevant pages, guess its to do with the amount of pages for aero snap.

Thanks for any replies.

I'd turn back on Aero Snap to see if it changes.

It's one of the coolest features of the OS, being able to put windows beside each other by just tossing them left and right. I use it a dozen times per day.

It also cannot be accidentally engaged so there's simply no reason to turn it off, and plenty of reasons like you're discovering to not disable such features.

I play up to twelve tables of poker for at least four hours a day, so I'm constantly moving tables around and aero snap pops up constantly when moving windows around the edge of the screen which is why I find it so annoying. I can see how aero snap would be very useful but for me it is more of a hindrance, I also have multiple monitors so it's not really an issue for me to split screen space. This other alignment feature causes problems with this as well which is why I'm looking to turn it off. Does anyone know how to turn this alignment setting off? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure Windows doesn't have that alignment feature, so it might be whatever program you're using for poker (if it's happening during these poker games).

Play on pokerstars, it does it with normal windows when the poker client isn't even running, so don't think it can be that. Urgh.

It isn't clear what you're experiencing. Can you post some screenshots of it using Snipping Tool in Start Menu>?

I agree its hard to get across exactly what I mean, I'll try and expain it using the snipping tool:

Here I'm moving the window on the left over towards the right side of the screen. As soon as it gets to this point, the windows jumps across and skips the remaining space and aligns with the control panel window as in the next screenshot (It's as if they are magnetic - they snap together as soon as they get relatively close). It does this with the sides of the screen and with the task bar as well. This means that it isn't possible to have windows slightly overlapping without them aligning themselves.

I know this seems like a very trivial thing but it is so much smoother with this turned off. Hopefully I have expained it more clearly, thanks for your patience and replies.

This isn't something in Windows - you must have a 3rd party tool installed for this.

I agree: not behavior we've seen or heard of before here.

Have you installed any 3rd party programs that might cause this, or used any tweaking or optmizing suites which are almost always harmful to Win7?

Thanks for your responses everyone, finally solved.

Was a feature of a multi monitor program called DisplayFusion which allows taskbars etc on second monitors. Wish programs like this would not automatically switch these types of settings on.

Thanks.
